Can I connect a remote telephone once the physical connection with a phone is made. I need to have a phone upstairs and downstairs. Will this work?

You can connect any type of analogue phone to it, corded or cordless. You can connect the base of your cordless phone to it and then have an additional handset on a different floor/location.
