Simplify your day-to-day calls: opt for a headset!

What are the benefits of using a headset?

As the name suggests, an office headset can be used to make calls, but that is not all: with a headset, you can listen to music, watch videos and webinars, participate in video conferences or even use it for PC gaming. Many brands offer multiple connection types such as RJ9, USB-A, and now USB-C.

Some headsets will connect to everything i.e. Bluetooth, Landlines, PC either wirelessly or via a connection cable and others will be able to connect to different combinations of devices. No matter what you need to connect to, there will be an option for your budget.

Alongside being ultra-convenient, a headset offers many other benefits. Here are just a few:

  • Hands-free calls: your hands will be free for you to take notes, sketch ideas, and be able to walk around your home or office while on a call. DECT Headsets will give you a realistic range of up to 50 meters indoors whereas Bluetooth will give you up to 10 meters.
  • Less discomfort: lots of phone users tend to put the phone between their shoulder and ear when they need to type or write. This position can lead to twisting of the spine or muscular issues, which have long term health implications. With a headset, you will be able to sit or stand normally and avoid risking any health problems in future.
  • Noise Cancellation: With noise cancelling microphones and headsets equipped with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) you will be able to hear your call, podcast, or webinar with no issue at all.
  • Hearing protection: most headsets are equipped with a system of hearing protection to guard against noise peaks. This refers to unwanted and unexpected noises which can occur during a conversation. This is particularly common in call centres, and it may pose risks to people working in that environment hearing of its workers, with the right headset, you are protected in all circumstances.

How do you choose the right headset for you?

There are three major considerations to take into account when choosing your future headset:

  • Mobility: Depending on your role you may be at your desk all day with no need to take calls on the go, in this instance a wired headset would be a good option. These can be quickly disconnected from the phone via a QD (Quick Disconnect) Cable and stored in an employees drawer or locker to avoid being misplaced. Wireless headsets are also an option as some people simply do not like wires trailing all over the desk.
  • Noise levels:  If you are in a quiet environment such as your home, a Mono (Single sided) Headset would be a good option they are less expensive and still feature a noise cancelling microphone. If you are in a noisy environment such as a Call Center, a busy Sales floor or even a construction office, a Duo (Both ears covered) headset would be a great choice. All have Noise cancelling microphones and with both ears covered you can hear the caller thanks to noise isolating ear cushions.
  • Your connections: How do you take your calls? Some offices will use desk phones, others may use a PC or a combination of the two. If you work on the go you may simply use a mobile phone or even all three. Either way there will be a headset to fit your needs. Price points differ and you will typically find that headsets with more connections are more expensive so, if you are on a budget consider what you use most frequently.
